Countdown to ICE China
After the success of the International Converting Exhibition (ICE) 2007 exhibition in Munich, Germany Europes leading exhibition for the paper, film and foil converting industry the focus of the converting industry is now on ICE China, the first dedicated converting event for the rapidly growing Chinese and Asian market. This event takes place at Shanghais Expo Mart Centre in central Shanghai between 16-18 January 2008.
ICE China is more than just an exhibition. It is the first opportunity for many leading suppliers to target the country with the highest growth rates and levels of consumption of converted materials, and one that will be a major export market in years to come. Prior to ICE China the only opportunity for converting suppliers to exhibit at Chinese shows was to take part in large unfocused events which were dedicated to much broader industrial areas, of which converting was a small part.
This was the dilemma that faced many Europeans with shows like Drupa, K and Interpack and, similarly, China has events such as All in Print and Chinaplas. ICE in Munich has proven that stand-alone converting exhibitions work so we see no reason why this concept should not work in China.
Some of the leading European companies already signed up for ICE China include Siemens, Polytype, CMR, Eberle, Vetaphone, Meech, NDC Infrared and Nordson. The event also has attracted a lot of companies from China and Asia, whose names might not be familiar with the European converting industry such as Gawan Industries, Jung Chang Machinery, HCI Converting Equipment or Fly Automation Technology, amongst many others. In total, around 100 suppliers are expected at ICE China.
The event will be marketed using the tried and tested combination of advertising, direct marketing, PR and telemarketing. Franz Hermann, the show director, points out that a database of over 20 000 individuals with purchasing influence in the converting industry sector has been identified.
He stresses the need to keep this community regularly informed regarding progress on the event so that they know exactly what companies will be exhibiting as well as what processes and technology will be on display. In addition, the ICE China team is working with technical and trade associations in the region to ensure that an informed technical audience visits the show.
ICE China is a joint project between nimble shows & media GmbH, the organisers of ICE, and IMAG (Internationaler Messe und Ausstellungsdienst GmbH), a subsidiary of Messe München GmbH.
IMAG are experts at running trade exhibitions, not just in Germany but world-wide, including China where they have been established for a long time. The show supplements ICE Munich, which takes place in odd calendar years, while in the even calendar years ICE China will take place and offers suppliers another strong event.
ICE China 2008 takes place in the Shanghai Expo Mart, a modern exhibition centre in Shanghai near to both the inland airport and other modern transport infrastructure.
